Fishing: Of course, no trip to Alaska is complete without experiencing the world-class fishing available. Homer is known as the “Halibut Capital” of the world. Halibut weighing 150 pounds or more are not uncommon. In addition, there are Dolly Varden, King and Silver salmon available at the popular Fishing Hole on the Spit. A large commercial fishing show held in March, featuring manufacturers and distributors with the latest technology for the fishing industry.
Kodiak Whale Fest
Whale watchers celebrate the return of migrating whales during the month of April. Whale sightings are reported daily. Special art, literature and performances are scheduled throughout the festival.
Kodiak Crab Festival
Held Memorial Weekend in May, the festival celebrates spring and the Emerald Isle. Organized by the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce, the festival has a carnival, parade, booths, running events, golf tournament, survival suit races, a blessing of the fleet and much more!
White Sands Beach
Located at the end of Monashka Bay Road, north of Kodiak. Area is set for picniking and there is a great walking trail to Termination Point.
Buskin River Beach
Located near the airport on Rezanof Drive West. Camping is available, and the Buskin River mouth is a great place to fish for salmon in season.
